Dari ribuan tahun silam, manusia memanfaatkan hewan sebagai alat transportasi untuk berpindah tempat dengan lebih cepat. Hewan seperti kuda, unta, dan kerbau sering digunakan dengan cara langsung menungganginya. Manusia semakin berkembang dan menemukan sebuah alat yaitu roda. 3500 tahun sebelum masehi, roda mulai digunakan dan dimanfaatkan sebagai alat bantu untuk memobilisasi barang dan manusia. Roda juga sering dikombinasikan dengan hewan sebagai alat penariknya saat itu. Lalu, pada 1769 ditemukan sebuah mesin bertenaga uap. Mesin uap ini diadaptasi dan dikembangkan menjadi sebuah mesin yang bisa bergerak sendiri menggunakan roda, yaitu mobil. Mobil membuat mobilisasi barang dan manusia semakin bertambah cepat.
